Details: Thomas Leyland (1757-1827) was a Liverpool slaver. In 1806, he started his own bank with his nephew and fellow slaver, Richard Bullin. The Leyland & Bullin bank supplied finance to other slavers across Briatin. He was also Lord Mayor of Liverpool himself three times in; 1798-1799, 1814-1815, and 1820-1821. In his will, Thomas Leyland left a fortune of £600,000, making him one of the wealthiest individuals in Britain during his lifetime.
