Examine the slaving voyages in the risk books of Horatio Clagett of Lloyd’s and a Liverpool risk book probably owned by Solomon D’Aguilar.
Risk books were the ledgers in which underwriters would list the insurance agreements they underwrote and to which they were a party. We have extracted and compiled details on the slaving voyages that we have confirmed through the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database to be in these two risk books. For the method we undertook to do so and for more information about the risk books and how to understand them please see the exhibition The Business Relations of Slavery and the Ethics and Methods Memorandum.
